Classroom Behavior

Students will be respectful of other students. They will use appropriate voice levels. Students will not talk while the teacher is talking. They will move around the room and hallways walking keeping hands and feet to themselves.

Character Counts

Instruction will be given on the 6 Pillars of Character Responsibility,  Caring, Trustworthiness, Fairness, Respect, and Citizenship. Students will be expected to demonstrate growth in these areas during the year

Expectations:We expect students to complete and hand in all assignments on time.  If they need to take it home to                                                                     complete, it will be expected first thing the next morning.  Assignments are given after adequate introduction of material,                                                                                practice and class time is provided to complete the assignment.  Corrections will be required on some assignments                                                                                        where understanding is not demonstrated. The grade book will reflect this.  If corrections are not done in a timely manner,                                                                           the student’s grade may be effected.

  • 83 – 74    C
  • 73 – 65    D
  • 64 - below   F

Reading: Textbook (Basal) reading will include: skills introduction and practice, comprehension, and vocabulary. Novels will include study of setting, characters and plot.  We will at times read a story for the enjoyment of it! Grading reading will include the following: 1/4 of grade will reflect independent reading of books during the nine weeks period.

                   500 - 600 pages         B

                   400 –500 pages         C

                   Below 400 pages      F

 

Word of the Week notebooks will be used to increase vocabulary.  Students will be graded on a rubric that will be averaged into the reading grade.

English: Focus will be placed on grammar, parts of speech, and sentence structure.  We will have creative writing that will process through rough draft, corrections, and publication.

Spelling: Weekly list of 20 – 27 words will be given from the text on Monday.  Students will be graded on their practice of usage and tests.

 

Social Studies: USA geography and history will be our focus. We will review map skills and introduce regions, the discovery of the New World, settlement and colonization. Our studies will include the Revolution and start of your new government.  Grading will be on doing “study guides”, tests, and note taking into notebooks that will be graded. Science: Units of study will include

plants/ecosystems, rocks and minerals,

energy, and light and sound. Our

science book has a very hands on

approach to investigation Additional instruction will be given in human body systems, electricity, and solar system.

The material is very complex so much of the material will be read together in class.  Grading will be over the writing up of the experiments, tests and note taking in the notebook will be graded.

Math: Studies will include review of addition, subtraction, multiplication and division, but will develop into more difficult applications.  We will be working with decimals, fractions, metric system, doing story problems. Grading is on daily assignments and evaluations.

Two a year and the clases will
 be divided in half for treats, etc.
