I am planning lots of activities and adventures and hope you will have a great year.
If we work together, we will learn lots of new things and have fun while we are learning.
Materials you will need every day
Textbook
Pen/pencil
Binder
Folder
Library book
Colored pencils, markers, or crayons
Agenda
Entering the classroom
Go directly to your desk.
Take out your book, pencil/pen and notebook.
Get started on DOG.
Have your homework assignment or folder ready.
Put your other materials in the desk.
When you are tardy
If the tardy is excused, leave the pass on my desk and take your seat.
A tardy is not excused without a pass from the office.
Taking attendance
- I will take attendance as soon as the bell rings. Make sure you are in your assigned seat. Out of seat students will be considered tardy.
When you are absent
- Check your agenda and board for the assignment you missed. Then check with me to get the papers you missed if there are any.
- If you know you are going to be gone, please let me know before hand so that you can get your assignment early.
- This will help me and you stay organized. If you missed any notes from the board, you are responsible for getting them from a classmate.
When assignments are not turned in on time
- 5 points will be taken off an assignment if it late. If a paper or assignment is more than a week late, a zero will be given.
- Some situations my have circumstances that will be considered. I will let you know what considerations have been applied.
- Please come talk to me if you have any problems or questions about an assignment.
Passing our graded papers
- We will be grading papers in class, and turning them in for me to correct and record.
- When we grade papers in class, I expect EVERYONE to be honest.
- If I find that people are “helping” one another out, they both will receive a “0” for that assignment.
- Grades received are not discussed in the classroom. If you have a question about a grade received, see me after class.
Extra Credit opportunities
- You will have two main opportunities to receive extra credit. Before each test, each student will have a chance to receive a study guild.
- If it is done correctly with thought, you will receive all the points. After that points will go down considering the amount of work put into the paper.
- These points will be applied to your test. When receiving all the points available, a student should be able to raise their grade one letter grade.
- The other opportunity will be given at the end of each quarter. If a student has all the papers we used that quarter IN their binder or folder,
- 10 extra credit points will be added to their grade.
- There may be other projects or assignments throughout the year that will be offered to the students to do for extra credit.
Leaving the classroom
- You are expected to take bathroom breaks, get drinks, and pick up needed materials between classes.
- In an emergency, come talk to me, and I will determine if we can make an exception.
- Every student will receive 9 passes at the beginning of each quarter.
- You may only leave the room after presenting one of your passes, no going to you locker to get them.
- When you use up all your passes, you will not be allowed to leave the room.
End of class dismissal
I dismiss the class, not the clock or the bell.
Before I will dismiss the class, all students must be in their assigned seats and the area around your seat must be picked up.
Any materials borrowed from me must be returned to their proper place. Do not close your book and put away your materials until instructed to do so.
Paper/pencil
- You may sharpen your pencil at the beginning of class or after instruction.
- Cups with pencils/pens left in the classroom can be found on my front desk. If you take a pen/pencil PLEASE return it at the end of class.
Grades
Grades will be given at midterm and end of quarter. The grading scale is posted on the bulletin board.
You may ask about your grade before or after school, at noon, or before you leave the classroom.
Please do not ask when I am helping other students or during class.
Books
You have an assigned book. At the beginning of the school year you will be given an opportunity to document the condition of the book.
Any damage done to the book that is not documented will be assessed a fine. The fine will need to be paid at the end of the school year.
Cover your book with either a book cover you have purchased or one you have received from me. I would appreciate all books to be covered.
Discipline
I will follow the school wide rules. Those are listed in your student handbook.
If there is a problem, these are the steps I will follow
1st I will remind you of the rules and my expectation.
2nd I will speak to you privately, either immediately or during noon recess.
3rd I will call your parent or guardian and/or have a conference with Mr.Farber.
4th I will refer you to the office or STOP.
If the behavior is disruptive, you may be referred to the office or sent to STOP any time necessary if learning is compromised.
I may ask you to trade seats with another student if it appears you are seated in an area where it is difficult for you to be attentive.
I will allow gum in my room as long as it’s not a problem.
The first time I find gum on the floor or under a desk this privilege will be taken away for EVERYONE!
Please show me you are mature enough to handle this privilege, or it will be taken away all together.
Hats must be removed when entering the building.
Toys and cell phones will be confiscated and returned at the end of the day.
If I have to take away your cell phone more then once a parent will need to come pick the phone up from me or Mr. Farber.
Asking for help
- I will be available in the morning before school, at noon, or after school if I am not on duty or have practice.
- Always fill free to come in and talk to me about anything. My door is always open.
