The Middle school level learning strategies program is designed to perform two basic functions: to use a learning-strategies approach to teach students how to learn with their individual learning strengths and weaknesses, and to provide direct instruction in content areas where more in-depth or specialized instruction is required.

The general goal of this program is to teach learning challenged adolescents strategies that will facilitate their acquisition, organization, storage and retrieval of information, allowing them to cope with the demands of the secondary curriculum and of the demands of social interaction. It is not the goal of this program to “cure” the disabilities that exist, but rather to teach strategies for working with and around those disabilities.

 Objectives include:

    • To comply with all school, state and federal regulations in the processing of referrals, testing, placement and programming of students.
    • To maintain a close working relationship with parents/guardians and regular content area teachers, including collaboration and team teaching.
    • Instruction in the learning strategies will follow goals and objectives of each individual student.
