    • Content: Students will learn to follow the rules of English grammar, usage, and mechanics to clearly express their thoughts in speaking and writing.  They will recognize and correctly use parts of speech and work to improve spelling and vocabulary skills. This will be done through a combination of text exercises and within the context of various writing assignments including: paragraphs, friendly and business letters, personal narratives, poetry, expository and descriptive writing, book reports, a research report, and classroom presentations.
    • All students are expected to be in class on time with necessary material and assignments. 

  Grading Scale:

100 - 93 = A

  92 - 84 = B

  83 - 74 = C

  73 - 65 = D

  64 -  0 = F

    • Content: Students will learn to understand and apply the basic components of written work.  Using exercises from the textbook and the established process of prewriting, drafting, revising, publishing and presenting, students will correctly apply the rules of grammar and mechanics to their writing and speaking. They will recognize and apply parts of speech, parts of a sentence, proper verb and pronoun usage and correct mechanics to clarify and organize their communication. Students will also choose expressive and appropriate vocabulary and work to improve spelling skills.
    • The homework and daily assignments will include a range of exercises and activities designed to help students learn the various components of writing and reinforce the use of those skills.
    • All students are expected to be in class on time with necessary material and assignments.

 Grading Scale:

100 - 93 = A

  92 - 84 = B

  83 - 74 = C

  73 - 65 = D

  64 -  0 = F
